Day 1 Results- Olympics 2012

After a grand opening ceremony of  Olympics 2012 on 27 Jul games kicked off with archery events for men’s individual, men’s team, women’s individual, women’s team which held at Lord’s cricket ground in St John’s Wood, London.

Men’s Individual:

Archery event for Men’s started with 64 athletes participating, including our Indian team athlete ‘RAI Tarundeep’, ‘BANERJEE Rahul’, ‘TALUKDAR Jayanta’. First Rank was given to athlete ‘IM Dong Hyun’ of Republic of Korea. Indian team athletes were ranked 31, 46, 53 in the line. IM Dong Hyun sets a World Record and Olympic Record. The competition rule for this event is, athletes shoots in a head-to-head elimination format, shooting in pairs: the number one athlete against the athlete ranked 64th, second against 63rd and so on. The competition is the best of five sets, with each athlete shooting three arrows per set. Athletes score two points for winning the set and one point for a draw. The first athlete to six points wins the match. If a match is tied, a single-arrow shoot-off is held – the nearest to the centre of the target wins.

Men’s Team:

Archery event for Men’s started with 12 countries participating, including our team India. Republic of Korea Ranked 1st with a world record. India Men’s Team ranked 12th. The competition rule for this event is, Each team will consists of three athletes, each team shoots four sets of six arrows (two arrows per archer). The team with the highest total wins the match, with winning teams progressing through the draw until only the finalists remain. If two teams are tied, a three-arrow shoot-off is held. If this doesn’t separate them, the team closest to the centre of the target is the winner.

Women’s Individual:

Archery event for Women’s started with 64 athletes participating, including our Indian team athlete ‘KUMARI Deepika’, ‘LAISHRAM Bombayla Devi’, ‘SWURO Chekrovolu’. First Rank was given to athlete ‘KI Bo Bae’ of Republic of Korea. Indian team athletes were ranked 08, 22, 50 in the line. PARK Sung-Hyun from Republic of Korea sets a World Record. The competition rule for this event is, athletes shoots in a head-to-head elimination format, shooting in pairs: the number one athlete against the athlete ranked 64th, second against 63rd and so on. The competition is the best of five sets, with each athlete shooting three arrows per set. Athletes score two points for winning the set and one point for a draw. The first athlete to six points wins the match. If a match is tied, a single-arrow shoot-off is held – the nearest to the centre of the target wins.

Women’s Team:

Archery event for Women’s started with 12 countries participating, including our team India. Republic of Korea Ranked 1st with 2 world records. India Women’s Team ranked 9th. The competition rule for this event is, Each team will consists of three athletes, each team shoots four sets of six arrows (two arrows per archer). The team with the highest total wins the match, with winning teams progressing through the draw until only the finalists remain. If two teams are tied, a three-arrow shoot-off is held. If this doesn’t separate them, the team closest to the centre of the target is the winner.
