‘Cutting one’s hair with fire makes it stronger and reduces hair fall’ says the 82-year old Franco Bompieri, owner of Antica Barbieria Colla. Franco’s saloon is one of the oldest and popular hair saloon’s in Milan, Italy. Born in 1934, Franco’s career as a barber started since he was 9 years old. At 15, he moved to Milan for bigger opportunities.
According to Franco, hair cutting needs a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience is needed similar to professions like farming, engineering etc. In spite of his dedication and passion, Franco states haircutter’s career is no more a flourishing one as it used to be in the past. Aside from his working time, Franco devotes time honing his writing skills and also acted in Barbierie, a short film.
