India’s telecommunications regulator TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has launched an app (for Android platform) ‘DND SERVICES’ to register complaints against unwanted telemarketing calls and messages. Says TRAI Member Anil Kaushal “The application is currently available on Android and will be launched soon for Apple iOS. This will ease the filing of complaints and also help us in monitoring action taken by telecom operator on complaints. “
The app basically has three screens; the first screen allows user to select preferences related to the nature of the commercial communication (Banking, Health, Tourism etc.) The second screen provides options to register complaints against Unwanted Voice Calls, Unwanted SMS and know your complaint status. The final screen furnishes information related to the app, FAQ’s & Help sections for reference and options to register or deregister and check your registration status.
Prior to the app, users have to file a complaint by forwarding the telemarketing SMS to 1909 along with their mobile number and date received. More complicated was the process of blocking telemarketing calls as complaint has to be raised through calling customer care or sending out an e-mail.
