Credits roll with Beer’s bubble in background, Beer is almost seen in every frame of the movie. It would have been apt if the movie was named as BEER than VSOP. Directed by M.Rajesh, starring Arya(his 25th film), Santhanam, Tamannah does VSOP delivers what it intends to?
The story revolves around Vasu(Santhanam) and Saravanan(Arya) who are thick friends since childhood. Whether presence of wife/girlfriend in their lives affects their friendship forms rest of story. The screenplay is fast but never really engages with badly sketched characters. Expect for a few moments like Santhanam asking Arya to leave him for good, Arya caught between siding Tamannah or Santhanam you don’t feel for the characters. Comical situations and Santhanam’s presence salvages the movie to a large extent.
Arya and Tamannah has nothing much to do except to appear silly and comical. Vidulekha Raman, Bhanu gives a decent performance; Lollu Sabha Swaminathan makes his presence felt. Sayaji Shinde and Karunakaran are wasted. It’s Santhanam all the way. His sarcastic one-liners, dialogue delivery are the only saving grace of the movie. In fact the movie entirely belongs to him. Watch out for the scene where he asks Arya and Tamannah to deliver a few comic lines instinctively and explaining the nuisances, difficulty in delivering comical liners.
Pretty Average soundtrack by Imman. The cinematography and choreography were fine given the nature of the movie. Though not as bad as Azhagu Raja, VSOP is dull compared to his previous ones.
Verdict : Watchable for Santhanam alone.
