How Much Sleep Do We Really Need?

As Fran Lebowitz has once said “life is something that happens when you can’t get to sleep”. But when you do go to sleep, do you really rest enough? For some people always complain on how they don’t get enough sleep or how they sleep a little too long than intended. With the modern lifestyle it seems harder for everyone to get a good sleep. Someone can’t even afford to spend time to sleep. But the truth is, sleep is more of a requisite than a luxury. As you can get a list of hard-to-spell diseases due to sleeplessness, it’s better if you take time off for sleep. The amount of sleep you take everyday also directly affects your ability to think.

Today’s research says that children need about 10 to 15 hours of sleep everyday while teens and adults require about 7 to 9 hours of sleep time. It depends on your lifestyle and food habits too. For some, getting about 3 to 4 hours of sleep is enough to keep them happy, chirpy, and fresh throughout the day. While for many, they need more than 6 hours of sleep to get out of bed and do their everyday chores.

Your brain stays busy and caught up in some sort of work throughout the day even when you do nothing except lying awake. So, it needs enough time to replenish and maintain your body. Although, you have to keep in mind that sleeping too long is bad for your health too. Especially during weekends when you ‘catch-up’ on all the sleep you didn’t get during the weekdays. Quality sleep is very important than quantity sleep since there are a lot of factors like stress and depression that affects. Well you don’t have to be stressed or depressed of the fact, just drink some milk and take a long undisturbed nap.
