Rose is one of most popular and most lovable flower for it beautiful appearance, color, fragrance and many other attributes. Roses are of various colors like red, yellow, pink, white, violet etc. and of different sizes. Red Rose is well known and considered as a symbol of love across the world.
There many varieties of this beautiful plant exist in different continent. The major three classes of rose are old roses, wild roses and hybrid roses.
Old rose as the name says, it’s very oldest known roses say known for thousands of years. They are also known as heritage roses. Bourbon, Gallicas, Damasks, Albas, Centifolias and Mosses are considered to be some of true old roses. These roses generally have strong and wonderful fragrance. Myths says that old roses are originated in China, later on introduced to European countries. Bourbon, an old rose is a very famous gardening plant. They are fragrant, full and cupped in shades of light pinks to deep pinkish-reds. They normally grow in moderate climate. Alba is another old garden Rose in existence as far back as the 1st century. Albas have light pink to white fragrant blossoms on an upright shrub with blue-grey-green foliage.
Wild roses are those that have been growing wild for thousands of years with no interference from people. They have five petals and usually come in pink, red, and white coloring and bloom once per year. Multiflora rose is one of well know wild species. Multiflora origin in Asia and later spread across America. It blooms once a year in late summer in white color. Rosa multiflora is now generally considered an invasive species, though it was originally introduced from Asia as a soil conservation measure. Seeds of this plant is dispersed by birds over great distances. However, most seeds fall relatively close to the parent plant which is why this species grows as clumps.
Hybrid roses also known as Modern roses are predominantly garden roses. These roses bloom for longer period of time. Most hybrid roses fall into the category of Hybrid Tea. Hybrid Teas are most recognized and popular modern species. They are known for their long-stemmed elegance and high centered blooms with wide range of rich and vibrant colors.
Among all these classes, Hybrid roses are more suitable for gardening purpose, in fact there are no garden without a single plant of rose. Here we see some gardening tip on how to care for roses.
Clay soils are highly recommended, planting hole should be around 8 to 10 inches deep initially. Plant in a place to expose to optimum sunlight. Pruning is important for rose plants, prune to open up the center of the plant to improve air flow inside the bush, reducing insect problems.
