Windows 11 is coming later this year, but it will not be available for everyone until much closer to October.

For those eager to use the upcoming Windows 11 operating system as soon as it becomes available, you might want to consider downloading it manually or just getting a new PC.

Windows 11 will be available for free to current Windows users and those buying new PCs. 

However, the update is likely to take place over several years via Windows Update.

To see the latest Windows Updates, go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update. When it becomes available, you can Upgrade to Windows 11 so that you may do that at a time that is suitable for you.

If you don’t have Windows 10 yet, you can still get it for free by downloading the installation file (ISO) onto your PC and running the installation process. You’ll be prompted to choose to 

Upgrade this PC now when starting up from a bootable disc or USB thumb drive.

Do any Windows 11 betas exist?

There will be an updated Windows 11 version rolling out this summer, which is currently being tested and shared with the Windows Insider program members. Installing Windows beta versions is frustrating and prone to bugs, so install them on a spare PC instead of your main computer. Early software releases often contain bugs, so it’s best to hold off on using them–especially if you think you might need them for a critical task.

Windows 11 will be released gradually over the course of the year instead of at a single event. 

For Windows Insider customers on the Dev or Beta Channel Paths, you’ll be able to install Windows 11 first in July; however, for those signed up on Release Preview Channel who won’t get their hands on it until later this year (maybe just weeks before the official release).

How long will the installation take? How much space does it need on my hard drive? How will I be notified when Windows 11 downloads?

Windows 11 will take as long as the installation is taking to install properly. How much space it needs on your hard drive depends on how many files you have and the type of device you’re installing Windows onto (whether a tablet, laptop, desktop).

Getting Windows 11 is not a simple process. We already discussed the Windows 11 system requirements, but this update requires processors from 2016-17 onwards. That’s because processors made on or after that date have built-in security measures.
